Q: Do I need PRTG Traffic Grapher or IPCheck Server Monitor?

Since both products can perform similar tasks the following matrix will help you choose the right network management solution for you:

Comparing IPCheck Server Monitor and PRTG Traffic Grapher

Even though both products cover some common functionalities like graphing and alerting PRTG Traffic Grapher was specifically designed to monitor and display network usage data (bandwidth, storage, etc...). Its sister product IPCheck Server Monitor has been optimized for availability monitoring (up- and downtimes) as well as for alerting.

Q: How many sensors do I need?

A: We define one (1) sensor as any particular, individual monitoring entity - be it a PING "sensor" or any other sensor i.e. an individual SQL "sensor". Groups and server entries are not counted as "sensors". As an example, with a 25 sensor license you could configure following scenarios:

- 10 PING sensors, 10 HTTP sensors, 5 disk sensors or
- 5 PING sensors, 5 HTTP sensors, 5 disk sensors, 5 SQL sensors, 5 service sensors

In order to monitor more than 25 sensors you would require a license with more sensors e.g. the Professional License.
